Ad Fontes Academy is governed by a Board of Directors, which serves five primary functions in accordance with our mission statement:

• To preserve and support the school’s mission
• To establish and evaluate the Board and school governance and management policies
• To strategically plan for the school’s future development
• To hire, equip, evaluate and support the President in implementing the operational plan
• To provide adequate funding to fulfill the strategic plan

Rob Hughes
Board Chair
Mr. Hughes is a retired US Air Force fighter pilot (F-15) and strategic reconnaissance navigator (RC-135) with over 4,000 hours of flight time. He was also a US Air and Defense attache in both Russia and Ukraine. Mr. Hughes is an Eagle Scout and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Baylor University, and an MA in Management from Webster University. He and his wife, Cheryl, live in Springfield, VA and have four children: Eric, David, Kirsten, and Colin. Colin is 2012 graduate of Ad Fontes and is now attending VMI. Mr. Hughes is an Elder at Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield. He has served on the Board since 2009.

Kim Bollen
Vice Chair
Mrs. Bollen has been involved in Ad Fontes from its inception, founding AFA with her husband, Mike. She has a deep passion for the Lord and for classical Christian education. Kim has four children: Rebecca, David, Catherine and Michelle who have all attended classical Christian schools. Rebecca is a 2000 AFA graduate, David is a 2002 AFA graduate, and Michelle is a 2011 graduate. She is a member of Holy Trinity Church in Fairfax. She has served on the Board in her second tenure since 2009.

Rob Ball
Treasurer
Mr. Ball has had six children graduate from Ad Fontes. Rob and his wife, Alice, reside in Franklin Farms.  They are members of Sovereign Grace Church in Fairfax. He has served on the Board since 2006.

Dean Luckenbaugh
President
Mr. Luckenbaugh has served as President at Ad Fontes since July 2007. Since 1998, Dean had served Veritas Classical Christian School as founding Chairman before being hired as President in 2003. Dean previously served the YMCA of Greater Richmond for 13 years completing his tenure as Vice President over 3 branches. Dean also serves as Executive Director of the Institute for Classical Schools. Dean holds a B.S.B.A. in Marketing and Management from the University of Richmond. Dean is married to Robin and has three children: Rachel, Joshua and Jacob. He has served on the Board since 2007.

Dave Murrell
Board Member
Mr. Murrell is the Chief Technology Officer for RollStream, a Virginia-based software company. Prior to joining RollStream he held senior technology roles at Software AG and CGI. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Math/Computer Science. Dave and his wife, Christy, live in Centreville, Virginia with their three sons. Dave and Christy are entering their ninth year as Ad Fontes Academy parents and have three sons at AFA. They are members of McLean Bible in Manassas. Dave has served on the Board since 2010.

Brad Ward
Past Chair
Mr. Ward is founder and President of Integrity Enterprise Solutions. He previously served as Vice President with Science Applications International Corporation, the nation’s largest employee-owned research and engineering company, where he managed the Geospatial Technologies Operation. Brad is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a veteran of the US Navy and served as a nuclear submarine officer. Brad’s daughter Samantha graduated from Ad Fontes in 2005. Brad and his wife, Mary, have two children, and reside in Chantilly, Virginia. They are members of McLean Bible Church. He has served on the Board since 2004.
